MEATmarket: A Tasty Covent Garden Find

The boyfriend and I ventured into London this past Saturday to go to the British Museum and have a look around and take some pictures. After a couple of hours, we left and found a pub nearby for a quick drink where we tried to find a place to get some good food. We were about half a mile away from Covent Garden and D found a place online called MEATmarket. The menu was everything I wanted, and missed from America: burgers, fried chicken, hot dogs, french fries (NOT “CHIPS”), onion rings, chili cheese, hard shakes. Oh my god.

So yeah, we went there.

It’s a bit hidden and you have to go up the stairs when you first walk into the building before you get inside. There’s a very small amount of seating. Thankfully, we got there just before 6pm when there came a huge rush of people, which had a line out the door waiting for a seat. You order everything at the till, and even get free refills on sodas (another thing I miss dearly about the States).

The place is decorated in bumper sticker style design and graffiti. It’s exactly how you’d expect a biker bar to look like in the U.S. but right in the middle of Covent Garden. The irony made me laugh, but it also made me feel at home. I loved it.

I ordered the Chili Dog that had chili, cheddar cheese, onion, mustard, and jalapenos on it with deep fried mac ‘n’ cheese as my side. D ordered the Dead Hippie burger that had 2 mustard fried beef patties, dead hippie sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and minced onions with onion rings as a side. And then we also ordered some regular french fries to share.

Everything was fabulous. Absolutely mouth watering. I think I inhaled the hot dog. The french fries were extremely tasty. The fried mac n cheese was actually made with real cheese, and came out fresh and warm. The onion rings were okay – I felt they could have done with some seasoning, or salt at the very least, but the boyfriend liked it and they were mainly his anyway.

I immediately sent out texts to my friends telling them I was coming back and bringing them with me sometime. And I’m already looking forward to the next time I go. Like I am looking at the menu right now and dying for some Chili Cheese Fries.

So if you find yourself in Covent Garden, or you’re looking for an all-American feast, or you’re just a foodie like me, go to MEATmarket. And order anything. I have a feeling it’s one of these places where you will be happy with whatever it is you order. It is that good. And preferably go after a week or two of eating really healthy food because the food will be welcomed and taste just that much better.

Let me know how you find it!

Much Love
