Every day I am learning more about myself and my body during this journey. Week 8 was especially helpful as work during the day became extremely stressful and hectic. And usually when that happens, I tend to fly off the rails, stop the workouts, and eat lots of french fries and ice cream. Not to mention, it was also a hormonal week for me so I was much crazier than usual, and craving a lot of chocolate.
Sunday evening, I was in the mood to bake. I made Ambitious Kitchen’s pumpkin muffins – I did half with raisins for D and the other half with chocolate chips for me. And since I had pumpkin puree leftover from the can, I tried to find a pumpkin overnight oats recipe to try for breakfast. Of course, Ambitious Kitchen had one because she lives inside my brain so I made hers for Monday and Tuesday morning.
I didn’t think I liked it at first but as soon as I got used to the flavour, I loved it. And it filled me up so much that I wasn’t hungry in time for lunch, which is nuts. That literally never happens. I definitely want to continue the overnight oats thing for breakfast because it makes my mornings a thousand times easier and healthier.
I also cooked some chicken for my lunches for the first 3 days of the week, I had a chicken salad with fruit. I bought Moroccan hummus Sunday and had been dipping a small naan bread into the hummus with my salad and I am now obsessed. Moroccan hummus is the best FYI.
Monday night for dinner I had planned on cooking some chicken, potatoes, and vegetables and then I was going to make a crock pot turkey chilli for the rest of the week. I did manage to make the chilli, but couldn’t be bothered to make the chicken so we ended up ordering pizza. And let me tell you, we both regretted it by the next day. I don’t remember ever feeling so bloated and shitty. Remember a few weeks ago when I had a similar experience eating McDonald’s? Yep, I’m now adding pizza to the list of “Do Not Eat.”
To be honest guys, I am not devastated by this. I am rarely in the mood for pizza in general, and considering how I felt the other day, it is worth it for me to just not eat those foods. My body is clearly getting smarter and I am doing a much better job at listening to what it’s telling me. Hopefully this will show physically sometime soon, but I suppose we’ll have to wait to find out.
Tuesday evening, a friend and I went to get dinner after work and get our hair done together. And guess what? I chose to eat sushi. I mean there was TACO BELL, Burger King, Five Guys, Chinese, a Chipotle-like place, Subway, everything. And I was all “I want sushi.” And it was good and filled me up and I feel so great about it. Hooray for me. Also, I spent like £8 for dinner out so that’s a score.
Wednesday was a rough afternoon. To keep a very long story short, I tried walking to where my boyfriend worked which is around the corner to get in some exercise after work and ended up getting super lost in a marshland and ruined my shoes and hurt my feet. So I desperately needed a drink after all that and we went to the pub for one. On our way back, we passed by our local fish & chips shop so D went in for some food. He got a battered sausage, chips, mushy peas, and mac n cheese bites. I mean omg, I wanted it all. But no, I knew I had made that turkey chili and I knew it was much healthier. We already had pizza on a weeknight so I didn’t order anything. I won’t lie and tell you I didn’t have some mac n cheese bites and a few chips (chunky french fries), but I managed to warm up the chilli and eat that. And a bit regrettably, as it was not that good. But it was healthier so whateva.
On Thursday evening, I just made myself a big batch of chicken pesto pasta for dinner and then had leftovers for lunch on the weekend. And I’m glad I did because I ate the rest of it for lunch on Saturday and Sunday as I was too busy cleaning to make food.
Saturday night was cheat night so we ordered Indian because duh. It was a fantastic meal. I just love Indian food so much. Like I honestly want to eat curry forever. But I’d be as big as a house if I did, unfortunately.
All in all, I didn’t really eat much over the weekend as I was too busy working on the flat and the blog to eat. But I did manage to break open the grapefruit we bought during the week and have that as a snack. It was hella amazing. I’m so happy I can find good grapefruit here as it’s always been one of my favourite fruits in the summer time.
Mondays are the worst. It is so hard for me to get up early on a Monday morning to workout. And Week 8 Monday was no exception. Too hard to get out of bed and had a bad day and couldn’t be bothered for a workout after work – which is exactly why I do morning workouts because it eliminates a lot of excuses.
I made sure to get my ass out of bed on Tuesday morning and did the BBG Week 8 Arms & Abs. And it immediately made me feel better about myself. I made sure to walk the stairs at work and managed 11 floors, which isn’t too bad considering.
As I hinted a bit above, Wednesday I had planned to walk to my boyfriend’s building around the corner and count that as some cardio. I initially was going to have a 20 minute walk, and it turned into a 50 minute walk. So I walked 2.7 miles throughout the whole day so I’ll count that as a win…
I slept in on Thursday but was desperate for a workout so I did BBG Week 8 Legs after work which was killer. I really hate lunges, and there are lunges in every circuit now on leg day so it makes it so much harder. Leg day used to be my favourite but it definitely isn’t anymore.
Friday morning, I made myself get out of bed early and complete BBG Week 8 Full Body so that I wouldn’t have much left for Saturday as I had an insanely busy weekend planned.
I have begun a habit of doing yoga every Saturday morning the last couple weeks and I’m really enjoying it. I did a 30 minute practice and worked up a sweat before starting all the cleaning.
I felt pretty good about my workouts during Week 8. Although, I have realised that I am not doing enough cardio. Since I don’t have a gym membership, I do all my yoga and BBG workouts in our spare bedroom. As the weather is finally starting to get nicer, I’d like to get out and walk more in the mornings and if we do have a nice afternoon, I’d like to try walking over to my boyfriend’s work building after work again without getting lost.
Week 8 Tip
Take notice of the habits you are forming on your journey. I have realised that my body craves healthier food now because that’s what I have mainly been feeding it. I’ve also noticed that my body craves movement because I have been constantly working out. I’ve seen a lot of fitness quotes and there’s one that says “Motivation starts you off but a habit keeps you going” or something very similar. And it’s basically saying that you can start your fitness journey by pure motivation but you’re never going to be motivated 100% of the time. Forming a habit is what keeps you on your journey. I am realising now that since I’ve been working out at least 3 times a week for the last 3 months, I have started a habit and now my body expects it. So my advice to you is to keep at it and eventually your body will be begging you to get to the gym.
By the way, if you’re following me on Instagram, you’ll notice that I’ve announced that my parents are coming to visit on Thursday and will be here for a little over a week. We’ll be off around London seeing new things, eating lots of food, drinking a lot of alcohol, and walking a ton. I am going to do my best to get in all my workouts and eat relatively healthy but I still want to enjoy the time spent with them. Therefore, the next two wellness posts will have a bit of a spin on them. Hope you all understand but I do want to try and incorporate healthy foods and workouts to the “holiday lifestyle.” I’ll write about it and let you know how it goes 😛
