I don’t need to say it, you guys know that Autumn is my favourite season. So it only makes senses that I would love September. I do. Kinda. Usually the beginning of September is still hot. However, since I’m in the UK this year, the cooler temperatures rolled in earlier so that made me very happy. It made me get into the Autumn spirit early.
I don’t have too many favourites for this month because our social calendar slowed way down and all of my attention has been focused on getting ready for our holiday at the beginning of October, which has been a lot of fun. However, as a warning, mostly everything on this list is going to be related to Autumn, because duh.
No surprise here. But I was able to try new pumpkin recipes and gah they’re all sooooo yum. And it’s not going to stop. I’ll be making pumpkin stuff until Christmas when the gingerbread will come out.
The pumpkin butter cups I made the other week are glorious. They’re relatively easy to make and are the perfect treat for an after dinner dessert. I have two every night after dinner. But when I’ve felt like I needed a bit more, the mug cake was brilliant as well. As D can’t have chocolate, making an entire cake would not be smart because I would never be able to finish it. Both of these recipes can be found at the Fit Foodie Finds website. Just type it into google and you can graze through all of her pumpkin recipes.
I’ve made my own pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin bars, pumpkin pancakes, and pumpkin cookies and it’s still only September. Literally, pumpkin EVERYTHING.
As I got my hair lightened up for summer, I wanted to get it darkened a bit for autumn. I love my hair a dark chocolate brown. However, because I spent all the money and time getting some pieces lightened, I didn’t want to just colour over it. So I darkened them a bit to match the tone of my hair, but kept some definition.
I like it so much more and desperately hope it doesn’t lighten up too much when on holiday. I may have to walk around with a towel around my head the entire time…
The Importance of Fiber
A nutritionist on Instagram followed me about a month ago. I went to her profile as I usually do for all new followers and started looking at her stuff. I had gotten to a point where I was sick of eating healthy and working out and not really seeing results. And was thinking about going back to calorie counting (eurgh, I know, right?). After giving her website a look, I got inspired and decided to try out what she was preaching.
And it’s definitely not about counting calories. But, instead, making sure I get enough protein, fiber, and healthy fats in every meal. She’s also saying that if you eat enough of these three things at every meal, you only would need about 1 snack a day (if that) and should be satisfied and full. I started choosing foods with high fiber and have aimed for 30-40 grams of fiber a day. I’ve been doing this for two weeks now and oh my god.
I’ve gotten comments from quite a few people that I look thinner and more toned. I personally feel thinner and more toned. I went shopping and noticed a big difference when trying on clothes. They are fitting better, some even too big now.
This has been a game changer for me. It has made me feel so much better about myself and it definitely kept me from giving up. I was getting so frustrated after putting in so much work and barely seeing a difference. But now, I know I’m on the right track to actually getting somewhere with my weight loss.
Shopping and Body Confidence
I’ve spent a lot of September shopping. Not only for new Autumn looks, but also for my holiday as I wanted to get some new shorts and a new dress or two. I ordered some clothes online, really worried if they’d fit. And they all do.
And I look much better than I did a month ago as I stated above.
I went to New Look as I wanted to try on a pair of high waisted jeans. I ended up buying 3 new pairs of trousers – something I NEVER do. Shopping for trousers always gave me anxiety and made me feel like crap. But not this time.
I am definitely not at my “goal bod” at the moment, but I feel I am finally making headway. I did not want to resort to counting calories because it’s so restricting and makes losing weight feel horrible. Eating high amounts of fiber has truly helped me in more ways than one. For the first time in a long time, I actually have hopes that I will reach my goal.
Planning for our Holiday
And last but certainly not least, one of my favourite parts of September was spending the majority of my time thinking and planning for our holiday.
Not only have I had to buy new clothes, but I’ve created a meal plan to give me the best results possible before the holiday (mentioned above). I’ve had to get travel sized shampoos and conditoners, etc to bring to the hotel. I’ve had to plan out a month and a half of blog posts, have them written and edited and scheduled so that I don’t have to do too much work when we’re on holiday. I’ve had to make hair appointments, eyelash appointments, and nail appointments as well.
There’s been a lot of planning and organising to make this trip extremely special. I just want everything to be perfect for it. As it’s our first true beach holiday alone together, it’s really special for both of us. And to be quite honest, we desperately need this. We’ve been together two years and have yet to get away somewhere together alone. We’ve both had a lot of stressful moments and events this year and I think this will be just what we need.
Essentially, September has been good. It’s been full of hope and planning. I can only imagine what next months favourite’s post will be like, but I assume it’ll be really fun and special. And hopefully will include more Autumn fashion… 😀
What was your favourite part of September??
