Reasons Why I Blog

Day 31 – 31 Day Blog Challenge

Ahhhh! Finally. The last day of the 31 Day Blog Challenge. And a challenge it was!! I am happy that I did it, but also happy that it is over. Blogging every day is not easy when you have a full time job and a very hectic life outside of that. It was crazy. And I was late on a lot of posts – sorry about that – but I do feel a lot better about my writing in general.

For the last day, I am supposed to write about the reasons why I blog, which is a fantastic way to wrap all of this up. Why do I do what I do?

The main reason, as most you know – or could have guessed – is because it gives me joy. I actually love thinking of new posts to write and have participated in so many more activities lately because of the blog. These last 4-5 months have been busy (and it’s only getting busier) but I have not felt like the blog is a burden at all. In fact, even though it adds some extra stress and chaos to my life, it’s been welcoming. I finally have a place to be creative.

One of the blog posts I had to write for the challenge was about my “dream job.” Which my answer was to be a full-time blogger. I would love to be able to devote all of my time to this blog. I’d definitely redesign the website as I’m not a huge fan as to how it looks right now. As soon as I move and get situated in London, it’s my plan to focus some time on the design. I’d also have more time to reach out to brands and other bloggers to develop relationships with them. I’d love to attend blogger events, which I know there are many in London. I’d also be able to devote much more time and research to my posts. I have a lot of serious topics and ideas sitting in my drafts right now and I would love to be able to get those published. I do love talking about fashion, beauty, food, and travel, but I also want to be able to write about the world and get honest hearty discussions going. It’s the best way to learn, in my opinion – which is one of the main reasons I love travelling so much. Meeting people from other cultures and talking to them about their experiences has been so liberating, interestingly enough.

Anyway, this post is supposed to be about why I blog, not about what I plan to do with it in the future. I’m just excited – forgive me!

I’ve decided to make a list of other reasons why I blog so read below to find out more.

  • I blog because….. it’s given me the courage to take more steps outside the box (taking more pictures in public, engaging in more social activities and events, talking with fellow bloggers and getting to know their stories, etc.)
  • I blog because….. I’ve definitely become more intelligent. I am reading more about the news and staying active in current events. I take every chance I get to learn more about the world around us. My horizons have expanded in regards to being tolerant to those in other cultures.
  • I blog because….. it has helped me with the realization of what is truly important in my life. By blogging, I have been able to understand what my passions are. Therefore I know the difference between wanting and liking something versus needing something. And as much as I do love materialistic possessions, I most definitely do not need them. And I no longer treat them as a priority. Just an added bonus 🙂
  • I blog because….. as I am moving out of the country, it will be a great way to keep my friends and family in the States apprised of my life abroad. They will have very easy access to what I am doing with my life. And as I am extremely honest with my blog, they will be able to see and read about the hardships as well.
  • I blog because….. it makes me proud. I truly do feel proud of myself for what I have created so far. It may not be the best, and I know I have a long way to go, but I am seriously loving the ride. The internet community is so engaging and it can be a wonderful place. I’m just trying to enjoy what I’ve created thus far and always have my learning hat on so that I can continue to get better.

I hope all of you have enjoyed my posts so far. I am always open to feedback so if you don’t want to leave a comment below, please feel free to contact me at or using the Contact page on my blog. I would love to hear from you!

I do have a lot of plans for this blog in the future but I will have to ask you to be patient as it may take awhile longer before I can get back to devoting a large amount of time to it. I can not wait to move to London and write about my experiences as an expat. So weird. Yet soooooooo exciting!

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed the blog challenge and learned a lot of new things about me along the way. Stay tuned for many more exciting things to happen!

These Are A Few of My Favorite Things…

Hi guys, so yesterday I posted Day 10 (a day late). So today, I will be posting yesterday’s Day 11 and then today’s Day 12. You still with me?

Day 11’s topic is about 15 of my favorite things. And I like this because this week was so bad that I need one of two things: lots of alcohol and to think about the good things in my life. Therefore, I have made a list of my 15 favorite things:

  1. My boyfriend: my best friend and the love of my life. My life has simultaneously gotten much more difficult and infinitely better since I met him over a year ago. And every second has been worth it and will continue to be. Long-distance is not easy. We work really hard at our relationship and I know we’re stronger for it. He’s my absolute favorite thing about my day, my week, month, and year. Always.
  2. My family and friends. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support and love of my family and friends. And I’m lucky to say that I truly love my family. We’ve got our issues (and boy, do we have many) but we all have one commonality: we love to drink and laugh. And my friends, well, same. We just get to say more inappropriate things and talk about things your family would never want to hear.
  3. Cosmo. No not the drink. Nor am I talking about space. I’m talking about the puppy that I will always claim to be mine because I can. My dad got her for my mom 8 years ago, and she’s actually the best dog on the planet. My dad took me with him to pick her up as a puppy. It was a surprise for everyone but I was the first one to hold her and play with her and feed her so that’s why she’s mine 😛 She brings everyone so much joy as she is just the most lovable creature, and has a forever puppy face. Even friends of mine who don’t like little dogs, or dogs in general, love her. You can’t help it.
  4. This blog. Since I launched this blog in January, I have become so much happier as a person. Knowing that I have a place to be creative and explore my abilities all on my own has been an amazing feeling. I have so many ideas and plans for the future of this blog and I can’t wait to share it all with you. These next few months will be insanely busy, but at the end of summer, I’ll have a lot more time and opportunity to devote to it.
  5. Travelling. I haven’t been to too many places yet, but my future will be full of new adventures. I never really appreciated travel until recently. And it makes me really sad that I’ve been to the Caribbean without really seeing it. Regardless, I know the importance of travel now and I can’t wait to find out where my future will take me!
  6. Food. I think you could say I’m a foodie. I used to be so unbelievably picky as a kid. I am so happy I grew out of that. I love going to new restaurants and trying new dishes. This is probably why I love New York so much. I eat really well there. Cooking on the other hand is a love/hate thing. I hate it because I never feel like I really have time to cook a full meal, I’m always so exhausted. When I had a lot more time, I always tried to make new recipes I saw online. And baking, ooooooooh. I love baking. Christmas time is my favorite because I’m always baking up something new.
  7. Shopping. I’ve always been a shopper and I’ve always loved spending money. This is something that’ll never change. Recently, I’ve become more interested in home decor and get excited about kitchen utensils and organization boxes. Being an adult is weird.
  8. Beauty Days. Have you ever had a day where you’ve gotten a massage, your nails done, hair done, eyebrows waxed, eyelashes done, makeup done, etc? These days are amazing. Not only do you feel like a princess, but being pampered can truly have wonderful effects on your mood and stress levels. At least for me. Every once in awhile, I like to treat myself to a nice day of getting put together.
  9. Reading a good book. This is one of my favorite things about winter because I am just constantly in the mood for sitting by a fire and diving into a good book. This year, I’ve made it a mission to spend more of my free time reading versus watching TV and movies. Having the Knackered Book Club Blog Series has helped keep me accountable to this as well. But I’ve always loved reading, it’s one of my favorite activities.
  10. Scenic drinks with people on a nice summer day. Ok so this one is pretty specific. But I love going somewhere with friends or family or the boyfriend and just having some drinks and a good time. Think: a rooftop in NYC, high rise in London, boat on a lake, a beach bar, etc. Just some simple chatter, alcohol, and laughter. Honestly, I could be so happy with that.
  11. Autumn. It’s my absolute favorite season. I love the pretty colors, pumpkin everything, flannels, oversized sweaters, bonfires, etc. I love everything about it. It doesn’t hurt that my birthday and second favorite holiday (Thanksgiving) falls in Autumn. It’s just all around a good time.
  12. Laughter. I came out of the womb giggling. I’ve always loved laughing and I laugh at everything. Luckily enough, D and I have the exact same twisted sense of humor, which is actually one of the main reasons our relationship works so well. We spend all our time laughing together and we both consider it a personal win if we make the other one laugh really hard. I’m surprised we haven’t been approached for our own television show yet. All in good time, though.
  13. French fries. This gets its own line item because they’re they best food ever and they deserve it. I don’t know what it is about potatoes that I like so much, but I do. In any style, except sweet. Sweet potatoes are gross.
  14. Helping people. I love being able to give advice to people. I always have. Once upon a time, I wanted to have an advice column, but never did. Maybe another day…
  15. Babies! I don’t necessarily have “baby fever” as I need to enjoy life with the boyfriend for a couple years before spitting some children out. But I do love that I am at the age where our friends and family members are all having children so I can have access to babies to play with. They’re so cute and sweet and fun. And man, do I miss being a nanny! So if you have a baby and want a babysitter, I am actually volunteering. You can pay me in Prosecco, or food.

This list was actually quite hard to write as I’ve been in such a negative head space this week. It was definitely needed though. 🙂

Any of you have any of the same favorites as me? Comment below!

31 Day Blog Challenge Introduction

I decided to do a blog challenge for the month of May. I was looking on Pinterest for one that sounded interesting enough. I thought it may be a good idea for those of you who don’t know me to get to know me better as well as using this as a way to write a post every single day. I posted the challenge on my Instagram yesterday here if you’d like to know what to expect.

For Day 1, I am supposed to introduce myself and post a recent photo.2017-04-17 16.00.54

For those of you who don’t know, my name is Samantha. I go by Sam usually. I work full-time at a big corporation in a very technical field and spend the majority of my spare time working on this blog. I love to travel, and as my boyfriend lives in the UK, I do get to do so quite often. I love to learn about different cultures, go on adventures, go out to restaurants to try new food, and love being social. I also love to sit at home and read a good book, binge watch Netflix shows, or have movie marathons with popcorn and lots of sweets.

I find myself speaking in sarcasm more often than not. I love to laugh, at anything and everything. I have a lot of opinions and I’m usually not afraid to speak my mind. But there is a time and a place for everything. I have a tendency to really feel my emotions. But I also am pretty good at using humor as a defense mechanism. I’ve been told I’m neurotic, organized, and a bit of a control freak like Monica Gellar. Although I like to think that I have a sense of humor like Chandler Bing and a weirdness similar to Phoebe Buffay. If you do not understand these references, I don’t know what you’ve been doing with your life and you make me sad.

I’m actually not surprised that I was sorted into Hufflepuff at Hogwarts as their main characteristic is “loyalty.” Anyone who knows me, knows that I love my friends and family very deeply and would do anything for them. This is both a blessing and a curse as it can result in a lot of hurt at times. However, I wouldn’t give it up for anything. My friends and family are the most important aspects of my life and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

I believe it’s important to eat well and exercise regularly to keep yourself healthy but I do not agree with sacrificing all of your fun or limiting yourself to extremes to get a “perfect” body shape. Numbers are not important. If you feel good about yourself and know that you are keeping your body happy and healthy, then that’s all that matters. I stopped letting other people’s opinions of me govern how I treated and saw myself a long time ago and I am much better for it. I will say that my boyfriend has made me feel more confident about myself than ever before, and that is one of the many reasons I love him.

I’m not a simple person, I know how complicated I can be. I am always willing to admit when I’ve done something wrong and I’m constantly working on ways to better myself. I will be making mistakes until the day I die, but my goal is to make sure that I am always learning from them.

I am really looking forward to what this blog challenge will do for my blog, and myself, and hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Please let me know if you have any specific questions in the meantime and I will do my best to answer them.
